Gerry - Going Big! |
Saturday started off windy!
Ross, Cam and Bernd went for an early Kite session at the Bridge across the river. They said it was great. There were very few kiters on the water and they had the place to themselves. Everyone had fun.

OOPS! - Even Kent misses a few! |
The rest of the gang gathered at
Dog River as usual and then migrated across to
Bette's.
Brad and Blaine went up to Sailworks to pick up Blaine's new foil board. I saw a few of the guy's at Safeway when I picked up a sandwich for lunch, and then we all met at the Hatchery by 11:00ish. The place was almost parked out!

Blaine - was enjoying wave rides with Kent! |
As I pulled in beside Kent's truck, Kent had just arrived back from the river. He said it was just a fraction lighter than yesterday.
Everyone got out. Harold on 3.2, Brad 3.7, Kent 3.8, Jim 3.7, Blaine and I on 4.2, and Gerry on 3.8.
Dale Cook came flashing past on his 5.6 hucker. He is an amazing sailor - he is twice as fast as anyone else on the water, goes up and downwind at will!

Gerry - getting up there! |
Gerry was launching some huge air! Kent had a great day, playing in the swell and trying to get his sail wet with his laydown jibes!
Cynthia arrived mid-afternoon. Her Rig Boys (at least six of them) got her stuff organized and sent her out on a 3.4 - way overpowered. She made it back in, and they re-rigged her to a 3.0 which she made work. (She probably should have been on a 2.7)! I commented later that her Rig Boys couldn't have been thinking straight sending her out on a 3.4, but Cynthia admitted that her dad had told her to go on a 3.0, but she didn't believe him.....

Cynthia - blasting on her 3.0 |
Cam, Ross and Bernd dropped by when Cynthia arrived and chatted for a while before heading back to do more kiting. All had a great Day!
 |
Bernd had a very good day on his new 7.0 Ocean Rodeo Kite! |
I had three sessions, I struggled a bit on my first two - then switched to my bigger Nash Board (115 Litres), and that worked much better in the gusty conditions - getting me through most of the lulls.

Ted on his 4.2 - thanks Blaine for the photo! |
We called it quits at around 5:30, derigged, and then sat around and had a beer in the parking lot, revisiting the highlights of the day!

The plan was for everyone to go to
Double Mountain for Pizza, and Cam was dropped off on the way by to make the reservation, but somehow back at the condo the plan changed, and most of the guy's ended up going to the
Mexican Restaraunt up the hill.
Bernd and I joined Cam, Cynthia, Ross and Jim at
Double Mountain. It was excellent.
All in all - a great day! Looking forward to more wind tomorrow!
