2019-06-13 Warm Up Day

I got up and drove Louise to the Airport.  We have had a wonderful week, but she is looking forward to getting home and visiting her Dad for his birthday tomorrow.

I got back to Hood River around 11:30 and stopped in at Sailworks to pick up a new (used) 5.2 Flyer sail.  It was rigged once but never sailed.  It is 2018, but basically, brand new.....  Louise even said that it sounded like a good deal.

At the Townhouse, we debated about where to go sailing.  Bernd and Ross went to Rufus, and I went out to Roosevelt to meet up with Kent, Harold, Gerry, Brad and Blaine.

It was great to see everyone.  Blaine and Brad told me about stopping at the Nanton Air Museum and how much fun they had there looking at the restored Lancaster Bomber and the other exhibits.  The Canadian Memorial Wall was apparently really impressive.

Flying the Lancaster!
We may have missed the call, as the Wall looked like it was really going off, but we all had fun at Roosevelt.  Brad, Blaine, Harold and Kent had already been out for a few hours by the time I got there.  I went out on my new 5.2 Flyer and my big wing, but found it really gusty - ether not enough to plane or quite overpowered.  Looks like I missed the best of it.

I went out again late in the day with Harold, Kent and Gerry.  Gerry had a great session on his 6.6 Hucker.  He said he was overpowered on the far side, but had a good session.   Harold had a good day on his 6.1 sail and made it work all day.  As usual, Harold probably scored the most time on the water.  Kent foiled all day starting out on his 6.0 flyer, but then changing to his 4.8 Revo.  He had a lot of fun in the swell and going up and downwind.  (I was just trying to survive in the swell which seems much bigger when you are foiling....)

Blaine and Brad left early so they could watch the Toronto Raptors game.  Brad said he had had a very good warmup day!  Harold, Kent, Gerry and I stayed until about 6:00.  Actually, as we were packing up, the wind seemed to pick up and steady out - maybe we missed the best of it....

Bernd and Ross went kiting to Rufus.  The conditions were challenging, with the current and good wind, but both had a good session.

Kent picked up some pizza from Safeway which we cooked in the Townhouse while we watched the Raptors win the NBA championship.  Pretty cool.

I think everyone was tired from their travels, so it was an early night for everyone.

Ted - de-rigging

Harold - picking up the pieces at the end of the day.
